A last minute festival schedule swap may have changed my plans slightly, but it did mean I was able to see SYPHA for the first time. High octane energy, heavy riffs, and a whole lot of fun. It's easy to see why they've been spending a lot of this year building themselves up and reaching new heights.

After they announced plans of an album, I was keen to talk to the band to get an insight into the process. Luckily, they were also keen to talk, sharing what we can expect over the coming months. Spoiler alert: lots of wonderful, heavy goodness.

R: Hi guys! Great to meet properly at HMS Fest in Bedford a couple of months ago. How have you been since?

S: Hey, great to meet you too! HMS Fest was a blast.

We’ve been busy with new releases and a lot of behind the scenes stuff but it’s been great, and we have some exciting plans for 2026 already.

You've recently released "Burning With Me", your newest track. How's the reaction been so far?

Honestly, this has been the best release we’ve done to date, we’ve had a great response from our fans and our listener base has grown a fair bit from it too! It’s made us really excited for our upcoming releases. On a more personal note, it’s awesome to have our heaviest track (so far) out there.

"At our core we love big riffs, heavy breakdowns and super catchy choruses"

So, to anyone that hasn't seen you live or on their social media feeds, how would you describe yourselves? Who are Sypha?

We always tell people we’re ‘Alt metal’, but we like to mix things up in all of our songs - which will be quite clear in the track that follows "Burning With Me".

We want people to leave our shows remembering each song for its distinct sound, so rock/metal call us whatever you like! At our core we love big riffs, heavy breakdowns and super catchy choruses.

Have you got any main inspirations/influences?

All four of us grew up with very different influences in music (from the likes of Green Day, Motorhead and even Mcfly) but I think we all now have a shared vision of the sound we want to achieve in Sypha. The main influences for our current sound include Poppy, Architects, Bring Me and Marmozets, with our own Sypha spice.

"For us, having an album has always been a goal"

It's a great name by the way, and I love the logo with the bat. How did that come about?

Thank you! We’re big fans of the series Castlevania (a game series/Netflix series) and we love the themes and characters, and the horror nature of the setting. In particular, a badass witchy character called Sypha Belnades and the rest of the members were sold on the idea. [Vocalist] Alicia then hand drew the original Sypha word logo, and we eventually asked [tattoo artist] Lou Reaper to revamp this and design a bat alongside it, the rest is history.

You've recently shared on your social media pages that you're working on some exciting things. Can you go into much more detail at this time?

Yesss we can, it’s been a while in the works now but we’ve been working hard on our debut album which if all goes to plan will be released in January 2026, with five new tracks - three singles dropping this year and the final two new ones on the album in January.

With this, we’re going to combine our debut EP ‘BORDERLAND’, as well as our single "World’s End" to form our first ever album. So it's very exciting for us, and we plan to get back on the road early 2026 for a UK tour to promote this (and we will be selling physical copies for the first time ever!

For us, having an album has always been a goal since we started Sypha, and it’ll be such an awesome achievement to share something that we’re super proud of, and that’ll wrap up chapter one of Sypha, giving new listeners a taste of what’s to come…

Alongside this, we’ll be dropping new lines of merch, new music videos, and more.

As part of this you've launched a crowdfunder to help. How can fans and audiences get involved and help?

As you can imagine, all of the above costs a lot of money, we thought about it for a while and debated opening an OnlyBands account, but finally landed on launching a crowdfunder!  Specifically to help with the album.

"We all now have a shared vision of the sound we want to achieve"

Previously, some fans have expressed their generosity to help out financially, so now we’ve made it official. We didn’t want it to be all one-sided though, so for those that are willing to help us out, we’ve included some goodies you can grab when you donate, including signed CDs, original lyric sheets, and some hand-made, extremely limited edition Sypha merch!

For the first three years of Sypha we’ve been completely self-funded, using all the money we earn from gigs, merch and our full time jobs to put straight back into the band. So any support is going to make a huge difference and we’re so grateful to everyone who has already donated (free entry to Wembley when we make it hehe).

And lastly, obviously whilst you're working on this crowdfund, is there anything else audiences can expect going into next year?

2026 is shaping up to be HUGE for us. Along with everything mentioned, we’ve got some new festivals and appearances that we can’t announce quite yet. And we may even venture further than we ever have before..

Thank you for taking the time to chat. Best of luck with the album.

THANK U SO MUCH, love Sypha x
