Sometimes, all you need is a bit of feelgood pop punk. Luckily, Newbury trio FOUNTAIN ISLAND deliver on that front quite easily. The band's new release, "Girl You Got Me", has all the makings of a pop-fuelled classic - catchy choruses, simple guitar riffs, heaps of infectious energy.
I had the pleasure of talking to vocalist/guitarist Alex Porro, getting the chance to go a bit behind the track and look at the writing and production process.
R: Hi! Thanks for getting in touch.
A: Hey, thanks so much for having us!
"What better way than with a cute catchy pop song!"
Using three words, how would you describe your sound?
Catchy, upbeat and colourful.
You've recently released your latest track, "Girl You Got Me". What was the inspiration behind it?
We were wanting a fun way to share what it’s like to have someone you fall for completely that doesn’t fall as hard for you and how that’s never really fun so what better way than with a cute catchy pop song!
You've absolutely nailed the upbeat pop punk sound here - what was the writing/recording process like?
A lot of it always starts at home. I am just a sucker for producing and love to tinker with writing a full blown production on my laptop. Being hugely influenced by Waterparks who always manage to blend dance style synth pop with trashy guitars and angsty lyrics we just dove into making big tracks and it just morphed into Girl You Got Me ! Tracking was a breeze. We went in with our longtime collaborator and friend Oz Craggs over at Hidden Track Studios and we had the whole thing finished in a weekend.

What do you hope listeners take away from the release?
That it’s normal to have feelings for someone not be reciprocated and to also hopefully not stay with them when you’re clearly getting strung along. What better way to have that expressed through a fun pop song!
"Tracking was a breeze ... we had the whole thing finished in a weekend"
And lastly, what's your most anticipated music moment of 2026?
We’re set to put out our debut EP ‘Motor Hotel’ which focuses on ambition, fame and relationships and how those get affected and changed from it as a concept.
