Once a full band, SHADES OF RIPLEY made a surprise resurgence last year, bouncing back with new music and releases. Which, of course, was a damn good thing, as the music is great. Following on from January's "Saturday", project mastermind Tim Crane is back with high energy "Tapestries".
The bones of the song should be familiar to longtime fans, but time (and studio magic) has treated the track well.
Starting with an upbeat guitar riff, the track is very reminiscent of alt rock classics. A buried synth adds a nice background touch, and by the time the vocals come in, this is already something worth listening to.
The sound here is very Foo Fighters-esque, especially in the chorus. There's something about the guitar riff paired with the vocal melody that just undeniably works.
Crane has brought in south coast session singer Amanda Power on guest vocals, a surprising but worthwhile addition. The dual vocals bounce off each other really well, Power bringing an almost pop punk punch to Crane's alt rock image. The dynamic here positively contributes to the track.

This is a track that prides itself on being consistently high octane. It slows down ever so slightly towards the end, but it still very much 'in your face'.
The final section of the song is almost perfect for an arena crowd to sing along, phone torch (or possibly a lighter if the venue permits it) in hand.
By the time the final note rings, this is infectious alt rock at its finest.
