West Yorkshire might not be known for its extreme metal scene, but that's not stopping SoulGrief. Coming off the back of their demo EP, the extreme metallers are back with brand new single "Blessings of a Dead God".
Decay, disillusionment and empty promises of faith set the backdrop for this slice of extreme metal. Proper cheery stuff.
Musically, the track features blast beats, dissonant chords, and conventionally coarse vocals. The instrumentals are incredibly tight, sounding like a band well into their years, and the lyrics are perfectly morbid. I'm not going to quote any, but let's leave it at I don't think this is the sort of track your Nan would appreciate.
Overall, the band have perfectly encapsulated the black metal sound, creating a suitably dark soundscape. The end product is a delightfully sombre, fast-paced hit, a perfect accompaniment for the cold winter nights January is subject to.
SoulGrief may be at the very start of their journey, but what a start it is.
