DEADLY CHANGES' New Release 'Denver' Is A Full Throttle Blast Of Classic Heavy Metal

"What happens in Cambridge stays in Cambridge", DEADLY CHANGES vocalist James Clay teases when I ask what this track is about. Something about meeting a girl at a gig in Cambridge, and the rest is left to imagination. The follow up to the Lincoln band's debut release, 'Ride or Die', sees the quartet deliver even more classic heavy metal goodness, conjuring up images of leather, denim, and a rockstar attitude, all set to the soundtrack of Clay's shouty vocals and high speed riffage.
Where 'Ride or Die' may have had more in line with early Maiden, 'Denver' carves a groovier, thrashier path. The opening riff wouldn't feel out of place on Kill 'Em All or Peace Sells, and when the tempo switches up, it's impossible to not move your head along with the beat.
As with most songs from this genre, it's clear that this has been designed for a live setting. The kick drum around the two minute mark sounds rife for some "Hey! Hey! Hey!" shouts, fists in the air an optional extra. This ends with some excellent call and response with the guitar solos (extra points for the craftful panning if listening with headphones), before one last round of that groovy motif riff.

Whilst classic metal bands might be charging an arm and a leg for nosebleed seats (I dread to imagine prices for next year's Ozzfest revival), bands like Deadly Changes are holding the fort in grassroots, and you could experience a new New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Songs like this are a reminder that rock is truly alive, and gives me much to look forward to with future releases from the band.
