Explore ‘The Outer Pale’ With New Release From London Symphonic Metallers TALES OF PERDITION

There's something about symphonic metal that just makes it perfect for an RPG. I can gather my wares, fill up on potions, and go adventuring listening to some great metal music. My latest look into this genre comes from London based band TALES OF PERDITION, who first came my way earlier this year. Their new track 'The Outer Pale' is the last single from their upcoming debut album, 'The Theatre of Existence', and delivers plenty of what I've come to love from this pocket of the metal world.

Those stabs. The swelling orchestration. Straight away I'm transported to an 8-bit dungeon side scroller, exploring and fighting various goblins and creatures.

The dual vocals in the chorus (provided by vocalist Alea and guitarist Andy) push this into more theatric territory than previous releases, with the verses remaining strongly rooted in the classic NWoBHM straight rhythm. It's punchy and hits hard, lifted by the subtle orchestral decoration. It bodes well for the band's upcoming debut album later this year.

Much like the band's previous releases, this feels like it would go down incredibly well live, with several moments where the audience can move about and throw their fists in the air. Of the album teasers so far, this also feels the heaviest, a credit to the scream vocals in the breakdown provided by guitarist Matt.

Tales of Perdition are no strangers to taking quite philosophical concepts and using them as framework for material. The band's last release, 'Occam's Razor', was named after a principle penned by a 14th century friar, and this release is no different, taking its name from the idea that all abandoned knowledge and history gathers in one place.

I'll always be drawn to the more symphonic metal, and the grand fantasy soundscapes and world building a lot of these bands have to offer. It makes me very excited to take my seat in the 'Theatre of Existence' in September.
