Mysticist are fresh onto the Northamptonshire metal scene, ready to bring a barrage of brutal riffs and blastbeats. Their debut track "Colossus" is out now, and it's every bit as heavy as you would hope for a band described as "Gojira with deathcore vocals".
A mere 45 seconds in, and this is already a track destined for moshpits, throwing the listener straight into the chaotic nature of the genre. I can already smell the sweat in the small DIY venues, unsuspecting audiences baring witness to Mysticist's anger.
The track is littered with dark, filthy riffage, backed up by heavy drums and a pounding rhythm, resulting in something that will undoubtedly appeal to those who indulge in any genre that has the word 'death' in. They might not exactly win your grandparents over, but Mysticist have burst onto the scene with an impetus to be seen.
It also feels surprisingly full for a band with only three members; the band have effectively captured the heavier sound without it sounding empty. This is partially down to the mixing, but the band are also incredibly tight and well versed in their instruments, delivering the drive and the punch needed to make the track as hard-hitting as it is.
By the time the final hit plays, the track is pushed firmly into face melting territory.
The path head looks very promising for the Mysticist. This is a band deserving of being on your radar.
