A Paramore drummer, a producer of In This Moment, and Renee Phoenix walk into a bar. Out comes CUDDLE DEATH, a new pop punk band built on fun, chaos, and everything in between. All of this is encapsulated in the debut single "Sorry," possibly the most energetic song written about a cat you'll hear this year.

The track wastes no time in hitting you, making the most of its two and a half minute runtime. The choruses are loud, full of energy, and the whole band is in lively form. There's a lot here that will please long-term genre fans as well as new listeners.

It's fair to say that a band with this calibre of members would have expectations, especially on paper, but thankfully the band delivers. The biggest takeaway is the underlying sense of fun—there's little space for downtime or reprieve; you can imagine the sweat and the sheer joy brought on from two-stepping to this.

I always try to keep the focus just on the songs themselves with these, but a mention of the music video is also worth it here, really capturing the spirit of what this genre should be. Bonus shout-out to the wrestling and the stunts. Bring back fun cheesy music videos (not that they ever really went away).

"Sorry" is out NOW on streaming
