After a six year hiatus ending in 2022, Birmingham's Methodemic have been leaving their mark as a blistering metal band. They are back with hard hitting, thrash-filled "Winner Takes All", their first release of the new year.

Straight away, the song immediately draws you in. A grungy bass line kicks things off, with a sharp feedback noise cueing the drums. A military-esque snare leads the way, and when the full band joins, it's palm-mute central.

This is good old classic metal done right - loud, aggressive and fun. The chug-heavy instrumentals are a staple of the genre, fitting in perfectly here, and the telephone/speaker vocal effects in the verses add a unique edge.

There's no need for any musical acrobatics here - the performance is simple, but hard hitting and effective. However, the band are incredibly tight, and this shows.

With a short duration, the track is able to fit everything in without sounding rushed. That said, I would happily indulge in a longer version.
