It's hard to ignore NEON RITUALS. The Leeds based Nu-Metal/Hardcore crossover band have released new track "Spinkick", an aptly titled track that sees the band deliver a powerful follow-up to a successful 2024. With the track, the band themselves as a strong member of the underground alternative scene.

Straight away, the band have absolutely nailed the naming of the track - this is a surefire pit starter, inviting a friendly game of "avoid the spinkicker". It'll no doubt feel right at home in a tiny, sweaty venue or at an unsuspecting cocktail bar.

The drums are heavy, punching through the mix and really driving the rhythm, and the vocals have a significant amount of aggression. There's a lot of anger, both vocally and instrumentally, but it's tight knit and controlled, delivered through refined musicianship and a powerful production that adds incredible value.

The band pack a lot of intensity into the three-and-a-bit minute runtime, not stopping until the very last note. It almost wears you out, but not so much that you don't feel each unrelenting booming hit of the breakdown at the end.

It won't do anything to sway the genre naysayers or gatekeepers, but it was never going to. This is pure unfiltered hardcore, blended with nu-metal technicality.

Now go off and get in that pit. You know you want to.
