Stockholm metallers SET BEFORE US are back with their latest track "Escape", which sees the band effortlessly blend modern metal technicality with trad metal grit. The release builds on the band's previous songs, refining their trademark sound and delivering it with a punch.
The track starts with down-tuned, heavy guitars over punching drums, before giving way to an atmospheric first verse. Here, the vocals deliver an almost nu-metal edge against a more modern, melodic metal backdrop. It's a great introduction to the band for first time listeners (like myself).
Elsewhere, angrier, growling vocals add a nice dynamic range, the dual vocals fitting nicely with the rest of the instrumentation - it's heavy but accessible, with plenty to appeal to a wide range of alternative music fans. The chorus is a great showcase of this, sure to elicit a catchy crowd singalong.

A key change for the final chorus also scratches the nostalgic metal sound, delivering one last bout of upbeat energy before leaving listeners with the outro - the same groovy riff and marching, thrashy drums from the beginning.
This is a great follow up to previous release "Resurgence", and hopefully sees Set Before Us continue to expand their audience across Europe and beyond.

"Escape" is available NOW on streaming platforms
