After going on a bit of a hiatus in the summer of 2024, SMOKE OVER ELSEWHERE are back with a remaster of previously released "Rock 'N' Roll Woman". The track sees a hard relaunch for the band, with a new lineup and more remasters to follow.
Starting with a lightly distorted, blues twang, the track quickly kicks into full force. The guitars are fuzzy, the drums are punchy, and everything has groove. Some subtle keys in the background add nice decoration.
The vocals add a gruffness to the track, complementing the instruments nicely. The style of singing here suits the track perfectly, a staple of the genre.
A guitar solo feels on the cusp, but unfortunately never delivers. Instead, we get a steady build up in the bridge, the track slowly swelling. This has all the makings of a great live moment - the crowd getting down, jumping back up as the last chorus hits.
For a track titled "Rock 'N' Roll Woman", it delivers exactly what you'd want. This is good, fun rock music through and through. The energy here is truly infectious.
The band are absolutely right to use this track to signify their 'relaunch'. Smoke Over Elsewhere are here to stay.
