WILTINGFLOWER Channel 2000s Gothic Horror With New Alt Rock Single ‘Siphon’

I'm a sucker for bands with both a theatric egde and an eye for gothic imagery, and so I'm already off to a winner here. Roughly nine months after their debut single 'Infected', Brighton Based WILTINGFLOWER are back with new release 'Siphon', scratching that modern emo rock itch.

Straight away, I'm getting late 90s/early noughties horror vibes. It's a perfect fit for the soundtrack to a film like Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (just in case you've forgotten that that was in fact a film).

The vocals float over the track hauntingly, blending with the heavy guitars to really drive home the atmosphere. The band channel their emo alt rock inspirations nicely, infusing that classic 2000s sound with modern rock technicalities, even leaving time for a slight breakdown at the end of the track. The end result is a strong track that uses its runtime well, packing in a punch and leaving me intrigued.

Any song of this genre of course plays with visuals, and in the first verse I'm already conjuring up my own imagery. It's great to see the band explore their own visuals in the music video, getting creative with the camera effects and, though cliche, atmospheric shots of bath tubs and running mascara. It feels particularly fitting for a song like this.

This is the band's second single, and with an EP being currently worked on, as I said I'm intrigued to see where this goes. If these two singles are any indicator, things are promising.
