Wolverhampton four piece THIS FALLEN CITY have recently released new track "Still Alive", a powerful, uplifting single that sees the band explore feelings of survival.

The track starts with a nice acoustic section, calm and swelling, with a short vocal melody atop. It feels a bit Shinedown-y, immediately reminding me of tracks like "Second Chance".

A slight pause, and it soon changes pace - a metalcore-esque heavy riff carried by a beating arena rock rhythm. The acoustic swells are replaced with distorted, syncopated chugs, the vocals now carrying an air of angst. The grit from previous release "Nightmare" is still present, though the production here feels stronger.

The chorus is where the soaring energy really shines through. It feels big, easy to imagine a sea of hands waving along to each drum hit.

Whilst the track doesn't necessarily do anything new with the genre, the band play to their strengths strongly, leading the charge with heavy riffs and melodic hooks.
