You Wanna Get Nuts? Let's Get Nuts! SKULLMAIDEN Release "Killer Chipmunk"

Southampton's finest power metallers SKULLMAIDEN have released their latest track, "Killer Chipmunk", which grapples with the notion that a chipmunk could, theoretically, wield a knife and do considerable damage with it.
The track follows the slightly more serious tracks "Until I Sleep" and "Highways and Seas", and is the last single to be released before their upcoming EP in September.
An upbeat, trad metal guitar riff kicks things off, along with a handful of tight drum fills. The riff, very reminiscent of NWOBHM staples, continues throughout most of the track, carrying the fast energy.
The lyrics are suitably cheesy (in the best way possible), with the titular chipmunk wondering who stole their nuts. The rest, as the name suggests, involves the chipmunk going off on one. It's no Dream Theatre or deeply thought provoking songwriting, but instead the band have fully embraced the fun side of power metal, delivering something that is memorable and enjoyable in equal parts.
There is still plenty of solid instrumental work though - an Iron Maiden-esque galloping section around the halfway mark sees a nice change of pace, accompanied by some strong lead guitar work.
The end result is a thoroughly entertaining listen, and the music video (above) is sure to elicit some laughs. It's clear that the band have had a lot of fun, resulting in a strong end product.
Just like Alestorm's "Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship", a song with this title shouldn't go as hard as it does.
"Killer Chipmunk" is out NOW on streaming platforms
