No, it's not the motto on some crocheted doily hanging above a white woman's fireplace, it's the latest from BANGKITAN, self professed Cambridge's best boy band. Recorded and produced back in the summer of last year, "Live Laugh Love" follows previous release "Whale Fall", and is centered around questioning whether all that we endure is actually of value.
It's anthemic, it's loud - it's true Bangkitan style.
The track throws you straight in there, with some excellent shouty vocals making sure you know definitely know the title. A groovy bit of riffage follows - some nice lead guitar work against a backdrop of heavy, open chords. It's the sort of lead melody you can imagine a crowd singing along to, the crowd 'woah-ing' along as the melody plays.
The transition to the slightly softer verse is near-seamless. Clean guitar and a simple hi-hat/snare drum beat accompany the vocals. The vocals are soft and flowing, making for a varied dynamic.
Everything is tightly played and produced. It's clear the guys are refined in their craft, and are able to pack powerful punches with their songwriting.

The lead guitar motif comes back in the chorus, alongside some powerful call and response with the clean and heavier vocals, really demonstrating the strong vocal capabilities on show.
The final result is a brilliant blend of different styles and techniques. In a discography that has the more alt-rock laden "The Misery Is Gourmet" and the anthemic "Trip Around The Sun", this track shows the band's unique versatility, highlighting everything that makes them them.
Their influences are scattered throughout, but Bangkitan are keen to avoid being confined to a single box. It's a versatility that makes them so enjoyable to see and listen to, a breath of fresh air amongst a sea of similarity.
