Quick firing power chords and hi-hats introduce Last Case Scenario's latest track - "Don't Give A Shit".

Released November last year, the track is very reminiscent of 90s/2000s hard rock and alternative music, blending catchy hooks and instrumentals with the feel-good message of staying true to yourself and not caring what people think.

The band - based in the North East - wear their influences on their sleeve, with the track also leaning into pop-punk territory with sprinklings of Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World.

The track has everything great about the genre - big riffs, punchy drums, and a great guitar solo. Backing vocals help fill the space, and the chorus drives home the message of the song pretty quickly ("I'll do whatever I want to").

Towards the end, the rhythm changes slightly, bordering on a half-time, almost reggae style rhythm for the 'bridge' section. It's a nice touch that fits strangely well with the rest of the track, transitioning back into one last chorus seamlessly.

For a song that just about passes the two and a half minute mark, it fits a lot in without it feeling rushed. The structure feels natural, and the production is tight.

It might not do anything groundbreaking with the genre, but it doesn't need to. This is what pop-punk/hard rock should be all about - upbeat, positive music that you can listen to and enjoy with ease.
