There's something about SAINT SENARA that just jumps out at me. Sonically, it's a far cry from the heavier genres I often surround myself with, but at the same time I'm drawn to the two piece, taken in by their resonant music, a gothic blend of folk and blues. In ancticpiation of their upcoming 'Dark Water EP', the duo have released new track "Ophelia".

"Ophelia" sees guitarist Andrew Bate and vocalist Chloe Gorman return with a gentler, somewhat more sombre track. The track is built around Bate's clean, reverberating guitar, with soothing vocal melodies floating over the top. A crescendo towards the end sees the guitar dip into slightly more distorted tones, but this is merely a narrative tool, aiding the lyrics as the emotion builds.

With an EP on the horizon, it's easy to see Saint Senara as a highlight in modern folk, the duo blending storytelling with musicality effortlessly. With "Ophelia", the pair have shown that they continue to be strong songwriters, unafraid to know when to let the voice do most of the talking. It's a nice counterpart to the more 'thumping' rhythms of previous release "Lost Lisa Marie".

Musically, Saint Senara are at their barest, with little instrumentation to shield the vocals. However, thematically, the track excels, the guitar adding nuance to the emotion on show.
