There's a new band in town...if that town is a county and that county is Merseyside. Since forming last year, Liverpool based DROPSTITCH have been hard at work bringing their post-hardcore sound to audiences. Debut release "Limerence" sees the band bring their sound to streaming platforms, and kicking things off strongly.

After the release, I spoke with the band - consisting of vocalist Marie, guitarist Beesh, bassist Luke, and drummer Jonty - to find out more about the track and their aspirations in the scene.

"Realising we've accomplished so much in such a short space of time makes me really excited for the future of Dropstitch"

R: Hey guys! Congratulations on the release. Can you tell me a bit about yourselves and your music?

L: We're a four-piece post-hardcore band from Liverpool formed in 2025. Our sound is built around tight, hard-hitting arrangements, vocals that move between melody and raw intensity, and dark, emotional lyrics.

How did you all get together?

M: I was at Download festival last year and realised how much I missed being in an original band. Probably the following week, I put an advert up online looking for musicians to start a new project. Loads of people replied including Beesh and Jonty. We met up and the vibes were good, so started writing songs, whilst trying to find a bass player. Initially, we kept getting let down which was a bit of a nightmare but we found Luke a few months later and the rest is history!

"Limerence" marks your debut release as a band. Is there a certain story behind it or what was the songwriting process like?

M: "Limerence" is a raw uncomfortable song about obsession and unrequited love. It's looking at a situation in retrospect and explaining to that person how consuming their feelings were at the time.

With regards to our songwriting process, Beesh will usually come in with an idea and we progress it at rehearsals with input and ideas from everyone. I'll take it away and build on ideas I already have or just come up with something that reflects the music. It really depends what mood I'm in at the time!

I like that you also released the instrumental version as well, that's quite a nice touch you don't see many bands doing. What was the reasoning for including that?

B: Our writing process, so far, has revolved around guitar riffs that are very djent and J-rock inspired. The demos are then fleshed out with Jonty’s hard-hitting drums and Luke’s gritty bass-lines before Marie’s vocals are added in to really complete the songs. Being able to put out an alternative mix as an instrumental gives us the chance to really showcase the tight rhythms that we love to write.

This also comes after your launch show for the track. What was that like?

M: It was such an amazing show! We had some fantastic bands playing with us and our promoters, GothFrog Productions, really smashed it out of the park. Just looking out at the audience, seeing them enjoying our music is really special. Realising we've accomplished so much in such a short space of time makes me really excited for the future of Dropstitch.

Lastly, looking ahead beyond "Limerence", is there anything else in the pipeline you can share at this stage?

J: We're currently recording two more songs, with the drums tracks already completed earlier in the year, and working on lots of new material. Right now, we just want to get our faces out there in the Merseyside metal scene and further afield, and are looking for opportunities to show people our music.
