Since 2019, Nottingham metalcore outfit THOSE ONCE LOYAL have made a name for themselves up and down the country, landing slots at renowned festivals and supporting genre heavyweights such as Atreyu and Kill The Lights. New release "Glass Hands" sees the band releasing their first music since 2023's 'The Relentless Cycle', signifying a new era.
Starting with heavy riffage and a pounding rhythm, the track quickly solidifies itself as a love letter to metalcore. The band's influences (which include Killswitch Engage and Trivium) are very much worn on their collective sleeves here.
The band are incredibly refined in their craft - the instrumentation is suitably heavy, and the vocals add appropriate angst.
A half time breakdown towards the end will no doubt elicit a whole venue's worth of headbanging. Dissonant guitar licks and crashing cymbals work in unison incredibly effectively, straddling the line between metalcore and hardcore.
At only two and a half minutes, this a short burst of intensity. On first listen, the abrupt ending surprised me. Despite this, the band pack a whole lot of brutality into the runtime, and at least the crowd will be pleased they won't need to violently mosh for too long.
This is a band that know how to get the crowd going, and with 'Glass Hands' just the beginning of their 2025, Those Once Loyal deserve every bit of your attention.
"Glass Hands" is out NOW on streaming services
