UK two-piece DEN OF DOG formed in 2022 over a shared admiration for video game soundtracks, and have released three singles so far together. Their latest, "Make Me", sees a continuation of the duo's fun, playful approach to the alternative music scene.

Straight away there is a dreamlike feeling, the track sitting nicely in the bubblegum pop rock space. The chorus sees a more electro pop focus, but there's some great bits of lead guitar work here that help the track branch into more rockier conventions. It might not fully satisfy elitists or nitpickers, but it's a breath of fresh air in a sea of angrier, darker soundscapes.

Driven by the guitar, the band have captured an infectiously upbeat rhythm, a good blend of the two piece's varying influences. If this was released a decade or so earlier, it'd be right at home in the end credits to a rom-com or similar feelgood flick, floaty animations and all.

A particular shoutout to the retro gaming aesthetic of the single artwork, designed by Latvian artist Katrina Mirdza Eglite.

"Make Me" serves as way of the band to pay homage to their rock roots a bit more than previous releases, and it succeeds here, finding the balance and carving its own space in a crowded scene.
