Iowa horror metallers GRAVE CORPS have built themselves on their horror rock anthems, blending hard hitting riffs with an intense energy.
New release "Hellfire Boulevard" showcases the band's devilish sound, delivering not one, but two fresh new slabs of musical meat to sink your teeth into.
Lead single and title track "Hellfire Boulevard" has all the makings of a rip roaring, heart-racing track. An engine roar kicks things off, before a melodic, Avenged Sevenfold style lead guitar lick takes centre stage. The energy is high, gang vocals shouting in the chorus, and the riffs are fast and heavy. This is everything you'd want from a horror rock track, and there's even a suitably 'grindhouse' music video to accompany it.
A breakdown/bridge section towards the end flows nicely into the solo, frantic and technical in equal measure. The energy continues to be relentless, genuinely feeling like you're bracing yourself as a passenger in a speeding drag strip hot rod, Dragula style.
The final note rings out, and the engine roar tails off into the distance, leaving the listener.

B-side track and W.A.S.P cover "Wild Child" starts off more atmospheric, wind noise and a building guitar riff setting the scene. The song shows a more fun side to the band, taking a classic staple but infusing their own horror rock energy.
It's a great cover, strong vocals carrying the melody and the band clearly having fun with the instrumentation. It doesn't do anything too new with the track, but the band's sound offers a fresh perspective.

With Halloween right around the corner, now is the time to curate all those ghoulishly great tracks - at the very least, this release makes Grave Corps a strong contender for playlist rotation.
