I'll always have a soft spot for any band that is inspired by classic metal. One such band is METHODEMIC, who I have been aware of since January with their release "The Winner Takes All".
With their latest release "Heavy Metal Heroin", the band continue their streak, paying homage to a fine era of heavy metal.
A quick drum fill starts the track, giving way to some fun guitar riffage. It's a simple rhythm with power chords and backbeat, but straight away, there is a lot of classic metal energy - it isn't long before you're tapping your foot along without even realising.
The vocals remind me of an early Maiden Paul Di'Anno, balancing melody with raw punk grit, and the instrumentation wouldn't feel out of place on a NWOBHM record. If anything, this whole track feels like one big homage to 80s metal, which it was bound to really, with a title like "Heavy Metal Heroin" and lyrics such as "I live for the minute to rock out".

The lead guitar work adds a nice flair to the track, interjecting some licks and solos here and there, and by the time the dual guitar solo comes in it's a perfect compliment to the feel of the track. Backing vocals throughout also help to drive home that classic metal sound, giving this track all the ingredients of a great crowd pleaser.
It follows Methodemic's previous tracks - not necessarily reinventing the wheel, but having a lot of fun doing what they're doing. And the fun is contagious, spreading to the listener and making for an enjoyable listen.
